Why don't Palestinians just move to the other Arab countries?
Responses
Expecting Palestinians to "move" to other countries is asking them to willingly accept their own ethnic cleansing, surrender their land, rights, and national struggle, and make way for settler colonialism in their homeland. Palestinians have never accepted this, and never will. They continue to struggle for freedom, self-determination, and justice in their own homeland.
This claim stems from Zionist narratives that either deny Palestinian identity altogether or dissolve it into the broader Arab identity. While Palestinians are part of the wider Arab world, they have their own homeland, identity, and national movement. Their struggle for freedom and self-determination is rooted first and foremost in their Palestinian identity and homeland.
International law prohibits the forcible transfer or deportation of protected populations. Encouraging or coercing Palestinians to leave their homeland is not a moral proposal. It is the normalization of a war crime.
Israel can destroy homes and entire neighborhoods, but it has never succeeded in extinguishing the Palestinian will to remain in their homeland. This enduring commitment is embodied in the Palestinian concept of sumud (steadfastness), which is not simply about surviving oppression. It is the collective attachment to the land, refusal to leave, communal support, and a way of life expressed through cultivating the land, rebuilding homes, preserving culture, and sustaining collective memory. As one Palestinian journalist who lost both her husband and home in the genocide in Gaza reflected: "Even if they strike us with nuclear weapons, we will not leave."
The majority of Palestinians are refugees or internally displaced persons who were uprooted from their homes through decades of Zionist colonization. Whether displaced within Palestine or living in exile, the right of return remains a central pillar of their struggle for liberation.
If Germany occupied France, would you tell French people to move to Quebec?
